Format:

Iranian Journal of Blood and Cancer publishes material in the form of editorials, short reports, letters, reviews, special articles, and commentaries.

Editorials: Editorials are solicited by the editor and are generally related to a paper published in the same issue. Length and format of the editorial will be agreed upon between editor and author.

Full articles: Full articles should generally be no longer than 3000 words. They must be prepared according to specific instructions (see below).

Short reports: Short reports generally summarize phase II trials. Short reports should include the title page, a text of no more than 750 words, and a maximum of 8 references and, if necessary, one table summarizing patients' characteristics and/or toxicity data. If necessary, an abstract will be solicited by the editor.

Letters: Letters are welcome and will be published if appropriate. They should be no longer than 500 words and a maximum of 5 references; one table or figure is acceptable if needed.

Special articles: Special articles represent papers which, while reviewing a specific field, also include some original or only partially known data article.

The manuscript should not include more than 3000 words.

Reviews: Reviews are generally solicited by the editor, but unsolicited contributions will also be considered. These manuscripts summarize state-of-the-art summaries of a particular field. Reviews should generally include no more than 3000 words.

Commentaries: This section of the journal mainly encompasses reports of important scientific meetings, which are of broad interest to the oncological community. These papers should include no more than 2000 words.

Clinical cases: These articles, which will usually be commissioned by the Associate Editor, should be 3000 words long, including 3 or 4 figures and up to 24 references.

Specific considerations:

Preparing the manuscript: The original and 2 complete copies of the manuscript must be submitted. So as to ensure rapid publication, please submit your manuscript and figures in electronic form (see 'Instructions for submission on diskette'). Manuscripts must be typewritten, double-spaced on good quality A4 paper (21×29 cm), with sufficiently wide margins (3- 5 cm). The first page of the manuscript should contain the following information: (1) Title of the paper; (2) Authors' names; (3) Name of the institution in which work was done; (4) Acknowledgements for research support; (5) Name and address of the author to whom communications regarding the manuscript should be directed. The second page is to contain a summary of 200 words or less and a maximum of 6 key words (in alphabetical order, suitable for indexing). Abstracts should be organized and formatted according to the following headings: (1) Background, (2) Patients and Methods, (3) Results, and (4) Conclusion(s). Authors may substitute "Design" or "Materials and methods" for "Patients and methods" in summaries of Review articles or of papers dealing with basic research. The body of the paper must be written as concisely as possible.

Preparing tables and figures: Tables and figures must be listed in the order cited in the text using Arabic numerals. Tables should be typed double-spaced; each on a separate page. Provide headings for all columns and indicate units of measurement, where applicable. All figures must be submitted in 2 copies as black-and-white, high contrast glossy prints, each of which is individually identified on the back by the corresponding author's name. Electronic submission of figures is also accepted. Contributors will pay all costs of printing color photographs. Type figure legends on a separate sheet and identify in the legend any lettering used in the figure. The top of the figure should be indicated on the back.

References: Number references in order of citation in both the text and reference list. Follow the standard of Index Medicus. References to abstracts and Letters to the Editor must be identified as such. Neither citations of papers in preparation or papers submitted for publication, unpublished observations, nor personal communications should be included in the reference list. For periodicals provide author(s), title, journal, year, volume, and first and last page numbers. Note: list all authors if 4 or less; if 5 or more; list only first 3 followed by et al.

For books, give the author(s), title, name(s) of editor(s), location and name of publisher, year, pertinent chapter or section title, and page numbers.

Clinical trials: Authors reporting clinical trials may find the guidelines given in the report of Simon and Wittes useful. (Simon R, Wittes RE. Methodologic guidelines for reports of clinical trials. Cancer Treat Rep 1985;69:1-3). Particularly critical is the correct application and presentation of survival analyses: useful guidelines can be found in the appendix of the report by D.G. Altman et al.(Altman DG, De Stavola BL, Love SB, Stepniewska KA. Review of survival analyses published in cancer journals. Br J Cancer 1995;72:511-8).

Authors of full articles and reviews will receive 25 off prints free of charge. An order form, showing the cost of off prints, will be proved.
